Friday, January 28, 2011

The Salman Khan starrerDabangg, a box-office hit, can now be viewed for free on YouTube. Released today on the Google-owned online video sharing site, it will remain available for free viewing to netizens in India.

Produced by Arbaaz Khan and directed by Abhinav Kashyap, Dabangg will be the first Indian blockbuster movie to be released on YouTube in advertisement supported model.

Internet users will also be able to enjoy short clips from the movie like popular scenes, songs and other footage from the making of the movie.
"This initiative marks a major shift in the way movies have been traditionally distributed and opens up a new business opportunity for movie producers and distributors alike," Gautam Anand, director of Content Partnerships (Japan, Asia Pacific) at Google, said in a release.

Released in September last year, Salman's histrionics as a maverick cop and the popularity of the song Munni Badnaam Hui made it one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time.

Hindustan Unilever is the exclusive sponsor for the movie on YouTube India. The movie will be only available to users in India and will be IP blocked in other countries.
