Even though his last production ‘Tees Maar Khan’ had a dismal show at the Box Office, Akshay is quite confident about the fate of his forthcoming production ‘Patiala House’.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, the film addresses the issues of cross generational conflicts between father and son. Akshay Kumar plays a cricketer who dreams to make it to the England squad. But his father, a strict traditionalist trying to uphold Indian identity and culture opposes his son’s wishes.

Thus follows a father-son drama and the quest of a family to find its true identity in a foreign land. The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Rishi Kapoor in lead roles. ’Patiala House is slated to release on Feb. 11, 2011.

Akshay doesn’t want to produce films for money
Akshay believes in offering his audiences something new. He believes in better cinema and is even keen to promote new talent through his production house.

Akshay says,”Today, I am in a position where returns don't bother me much. I only think that what new I can offer to my audience. I have produced eight films so far and none of them were unsuccessful commercially, and neither my distributors had to suffer any losses."

Even his last production, ’Tees Maar Khan’ did receive one of the biggest box-office openings, but could not continue its glorious run.

The film that earned Rs. 12.75 crore each on the first two days of its release and Rs. 12 crore on Sunday, failed from Monday onwards. The film not even earned Rs. 10.5 crore in the next three days.

Interestingly, UTV Motion pictures that distributed the film is not ready to accept that the film which has earned Rs 47.75 crore in first six days as a flop.

In a statement, the distributors said that they are confident that the film will be a profitable deal at the box office.

Bollywood’s changing
Akshay regrets how stars like him and Shah Rukh cannot venture into smaller films like ‘Udaan’ because high box-office returns are always expected from their films.

Akshay believes in near future films like ‘Udaan’ will have much bigger draw at the box-office.

He further added,” A film like ‘Udaan’ has a certain kind of audience who would go and watch them. Maybe as time progress, more people would start watching these kind of films. In around four years, people would watch only this kind of cinema."
